This meal is easy, delicious and full of flavour. But that's not all. Packed with detoxifying veggies, leafy greens and one of natures most alkalizing grains, millet, it'll leave you feeling satiated, nourished and not the slightest bit guilty.
Millet is one of the few grains that is alkalizing to the body. It is also gluten-free, non-allergenic, has a low glycemic index and is rich in protein, magnesium, calcium, niacin, copper, manganese, fiber and antioxidants. Millet aids in digestion, relieves constipation, lowers cholesterol and acts as a handy little prebiotic.
A note on alkaline vs acidic foods:
Have you heard of the alkalising diet? It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle, entailing foods and behaviours that help to alkalise the body. The typical Kiwi diet is high in acid-forming foods such as alcohol, dairy products, processed food, meat, caffeine, wheat and tobacco. Stress, lack of sleep and anxiety also contribute to acidity in the body. A prolonged acidic diet eventually alters our blood, compromises the immune system and allows yeast, parasites and rebellious cells to thrive.
If your body is in an acidic condition from eating a disproportionate amount of acid-forming foods, it constantly tries to return to balance by drawing on your stored reserves of alkaline minerals: sodium, calcium, potassium and magnesium. Over time this results in the depletion of alkaline minerals from your body.
Eating alkaline foods (which this recipe is jam packed full of) promotes a healthy, vibrant, oxygenated, energetic body. We can bring our body’s pH into balance by consuming lots of alkalising foods and fluids with every meal. Acid foods aren't necessarily always 'bad', they just need to be balanced with a good dose of alkalising foods. The recommended ratio is 80% Alkaline to 20% Acidic.
